My Gift

Since I was a little girl, I always felt I was abit different from other children.  I used to spend alot of time with my grandparents as a child, because my mum was a single parent.  This was quite unusal back in the seventies, but my grandparents gave me alot of time and attention, so I did not feel I have missed out.  My Grandad would get me helping out in the garden and doing lots of odd jobs around the house.  My Nanna had arthritis, so she could not do very much, so I would help out.

I loved spending time with my grandperents and they tought me so much.  My Grandad used to help me to set up Jumble sales and also selling pot plants and various items.  He used to spell things wrong and as a result of this, I used to get more people coming up to my stall and telling me that it has been spelt wrong.  My Grandad said he did it deliberately becouse he said people like to poeint out other peoples mistakes.  As a result of this, people would chat to us and find out what wonderfull people we was.  I do actually think my Grandad was Dyslexic but it was his way have getting round it.  Alot of people are embarressed about not being able to read and write properly.

I really did not think to much about this until recentely.  I put up my new web sight and a number of people have pointed out about my spelling ect. I have got to the stage in my life now, where I am proud of what I have acheived and have done this with dyslexia.  It has given me determination and the courage to acheived my goals.  Most people take it for granted that they can read and write easy, so often do not bother to do anything more when they leave sckool or collage.  I am more hungry to lear becouase it does not come easy to me.  This helps me to help others see that if I can do it and they have difficulties then they can also do it.

Becaouse of my learning difference, I try so much harder and do not let anything stop me.  I have even had a few of my articles published and will one day very soon write a book.  You cannot judge a book by its cover and really need to check out what makes a good story.  I have lots of great stories and people need to look beyond the grammer and read the story. We have some very talented Dyslexic people in this world and they do not let anything stop them either.

I left sckool without good grades and felt very disapointed at the time, but my grandad was alway so very proud of me and said what a wonderfull caring individual I am.  I cared for my Nanna and this put me in very good stead for my job as a care worker.  Alot of people are very prowd of me.  I went on to acheive my diploma in health and social welfare and I am not doing a diploma in health and fitness.  It is not easy, but I just try different learning styles to help me to learn things.

My gift has helped me to help others to acheive there goals.

Please note I have not done a spell check and have just written in the style that is natural to me and other people like me.

Kelly you are an inspiration to lots of people and I admire you greatly for having the confidence to have written this as YOU and not as other people think we should be. I know many dyslexic people who struggle with every day tasks and many people don't understand or they just sympthise and try and 'correct' things for them instead of showing them and allowing them to be who they are. They don't see the 'whole' person and how wonderful they are, they see this 'difficulty' and feel they need to be doing something about it which can be very frustrating for dyslexic's. Your story about your grandad was wonderful and show's how a small spelling mistake can attract attention to the person you are. Many many peeople are proud of you and I am certainly one of them.

With Love
